About Us

The Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church of McConnells, South Carolina was established in 1884 under the pastorate of Rev. Alexander. The establishment of the church was a result of a need to have a place to worship in the Lowry’s community. Many of the original members had fellowshipped at the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Chester. However, it was felt that a church in Lowrys was needed so that members would not have to make the long trip to Chester using buggy, mule or walking.

Services were initially held in a brush harbor until people gave members wagons, mules, and logs to aid in building a church. In 1885, a little more than two acres of land was purchased for $200.00 from Major J.Y. Lowry and Mr. J.S. Guy. Aplace of worship was built on this land.

Education was an important segment in the history of the church. The Saint Paul school was started to provide education for persons of color in the surrounding community. The school offered grades one through four. Students began school at age seven. Early teachers included members of the church.

Throughout the years, Saint Paul has grown and prospered in the Lowrys community. A new house of worship and a new fellowship hall was built under the direction of Pastor Bobby Feathersone, Sr. Membership has grown and new ministries have been added for the glory of God and to meet the diverse needs of a dynamic church.

Saint Paul is a church that has continually been on the move for Christ is still working hard to ignite the world for HIm and help illuminate the dark place sin our lives and community. We welcome you to our church!
